| In the x-ray above, the Medial Malleolus should be where the purple oval is located. The Lateral Malleolus should be attached to the Fibula where the red oval is located and should connect at the point where the blue oval is located. The green arrow shows which direction this loose piece needed to be turned to accomplish this surgically. The flat area of the Lateral Malleolus, where the green oval is located, should be pointing to the right. The above x-ray is an anterior view (front view) so the calcaneous ("heel bone") normally is not visible. This x-ray shows how the ankle was broken and how the left foot was dislocated and twisted. |
